JEFF WISSLER TOSSES 7 TOUCHDOWN PASSES IN 54-14 ROUTE OF STRUGGLING WOLVERINES

SALT LAKE CITY – Bears newly acquired quarterback, Jeff Wissler, tied an RMFL record, tossing 7 touchdown passes, including 3 to tight end, Ben Moa in the first half, as the Utah Bears raced out to a 33-0 lead and cruised the rest o the way with a 54-14 victory over the Utah Wolverines.

In what has turned from offensive ineptitude in 2009, has become a star-studded offensive lineup in 2010 for the Utah Bears that now not only includes former Heat star, Wissler, but also one of his favorite receivers, Brian Simmons as well as arguably the most explosive wide receiver and kick returner (Joe Mapson) and best tight end in the RMFL in Ben Moa who caught 7 passes for 126 yards to go along with his three first half touchdown scores. Wissler also tossed touchdown passes to Mapson, Simmons, Norvel Young and Dustin Stipanovich.

Spoon Moala lead the Bears’ rushing offense with 76 yards on only 9 carries as the game was salted away early.

The Bears scored on their first three drives that included a 47-yard score to Norvel Young, the long-time RMFL veteran and former UFL MVP, as well as the first two touchdown tosses to Moa, both from 17 yards out.

The Wolverines would draw to within 20-7 when Wolverine quarterback, Hans Hatchett (4-12-2-110-1) connected Tyson Wagner with 6:31 to go in the 2^nd quarter for a 60-yard scoring play to break the shutout and make it interesting… for a time at the 11:45 Mark of the 2^nd quarter.

Moa would pull the hat trick, however, at the 6:31 mark of the 2^nd quarter on a 27-yard score from Wissler to give the Bears a 27-7 lead before Wissler found Simmons late in the quarter as the Bears took a comfortable 33-7 lead into the half.

The Wolverines would get to within 33-14 after Hatchett scrambled in to the end zone from 7 yards out late in the 3^rd quarter, however, that only seemed to upset a “sleeping Bear” as the Bears scored quickly twice immediately after that to ring in the end the third quarter, ahead 47-14.

Dan Sundstom and Levine Tupe lead the Bears defense with 5 and 4 tackles each. They also both recovered a key fumble setting up field position and scores for the Bear offense. Overall, the Bears would force 6 turnovers, 4 fumbles and 2 interceptions (Johnny Sanchez, Angel Castillo) in limiting Hatchett to 110 passing yards and the Wolverine offense to only 75 rushing yards, lead by Hatchett’s scrambles (45 total yards).

Chris Rosales lead the Wolverines defense with 7 tackles, however, the Bears offense move almost at will at times for almost 450 total net yards on the day.

The Bears (2-1) now travel to Layton to face the Davis Cowboys (1-2) while the Wolverines (0-3) must face arch-nemesis, Wasatch (2-1) at home.
