TREASURE VALLEY SPARTANS DEMONSTRATE “OFFENSIVE” DEFENSE IN 23-8 UPSET OF DEFENDING CHAMPS

EMMITT – If anyone could have predicted that the Treasure Valley Spartans were going to pull off the big week #1 upset over the highly favored, Wasatch Revolution, they would have never been able to predict HOW they were going to do it.

The Spartans scored on a 67-yard punt return by Dane Knickrehm, a 67-yard interception return by newly acquired, Cam Hall and a 45-yard fumble return for touchdown by RMFL all-time tackles leader and 3-time RMFL Defensive MVP, Zac Jockumsen en route to a crazy 23-7 win over the visiting Revolution Saturday.

In a game that saw 14 total sacks (8 by Wasatch, 6 by Treasure Valley) and 8 turnovers (5 by Wasatch, 3 by Treasure Valley, it was clear early and often, that defense was to rule the night.

The Revolution offense was held to less than 200 total net yards for the first time in team history and MVP quarterback, Charlie Peterson looked… mortal as the explosive Revolution passing attack was held in check.

The Spartan offense, however, did even less damage. Not only was the Spartan offense outscored on the night by the Wasatch offense (8-3), but they could only muster a hair more than 100 total net yards from scrimmage. All-star wide receiver, Britt Hall, however, did produce well, catching 6 passes for 82 yards, edging out Wasatch’s, Toby Christensen, who caught 7 passes for 71 yards as the top offensive producers in the game.

The Spartans, however, will take it… anyway they can. Particularly grinding out to a 23-0 lead before Wasatch finally picked up a 4th quarter touchdown when Peterson found Toby Christensen on a 20-yard pass play.

The Spartans defense was paced by Zacq Hale who led the team in tackles with 6-1/2, Zac Jockumsen, who had 5-1/2 tackles and the big fumble recovery touchdown and Cam Hall, who also had 5-1/2 tackles and the big interception score.  Dan Koski had three sacks and Sean Armstrong another 2 for a defense that kept a top D1 level quarterback off-balance for most of the game.  The Revolution was lead by Justin Walker, who lead the team with 8 tackles, including 3 sacks. Tracy Ita also contributed in a big way with 2-1/2 sacks of his own as the Revolution defense did everything it could to keep the team in the game throughout.

SCORING SUMMARY:
