JAMES FOUNTAINE LEADS DESPERADOS TO 2-0 RECORD WITH BIG ROAD WIN OVER VIKINGS 20-13

TERRETON, IDAHO – In what may have been the most hotly contested match-up of the day, Utah Valley Desperado quarterback, James Fountaine found JD Dawson for a 16-yard touchdown pass late in the 4th quarter to turn a 14-13 lead into a 20-13 victory, leading the Desperados to an early 2-0 record in the AAA Division.

Fountaine would  pass for 173 yards, including two scores and rush for the other touchdown, leading all rushers with 61 yards in an heroic effort.

Fountaine connected with Bryce Morris in the first half on a 53-yard pass play to give the Desperados the early 7-0 lead.  Late in the second quarter, Fountaine would knife in from 2-yards out to gain a 14-0 lead before the Vikings would mount a comeback.

The Vikings’ star running back, Russell Singleton would break the Vikings scoring drought with an electrifying 59-yard touchdown dash through the heart of the Desperado defense to draw the Vikings to within 14-7.  With the Viking defense playing tough, the offense mounted another drive midway through the 4th quarter as Viking quarterback, Cody Crittenden, who struggled most of the day (11-26-2-112-1), got going; ending in a 4-yard touchdown pass to Braxton Mouser. A missed extra point, however, kept the Vikings down until the game sealing score by the Desperados.

Singleton would finish with 78 yards on 9 carries, however, without the 59-yard game-breaker, only had 19 yards on 9 carries as the Desperado defense played strong against the Viking rushing attack.

The Desperados defense was keyed by great play from Jason Hermanson who recorded 5-1/2 tackles and one of the two interceptions that the Desperado defense got off Crittenden.

Neither quarterback had a great day passing, even Fountaine, amidst all of his heroics, tossed three interceptions to the Vikings, including one to Vikings defensive leader, Eugene Tuioti-Mariner, who also lead the Vikings in tackles with 7 from the cornerback position. Ali Goljamofrad recorded 3 tackles and one of the other picks, but also lead the Viking offense in receiving yards, turning a 39-yard pass play for the Vikings to key the scoring drive.

The road for each team only gets harder as the Desperados return home to play the Shock on April 24th, while the Vikings must re-group from two early home losses to go to Saint George, Utah, to face the undefeated Blitz.
